The Faculty of Education (FEd) of the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) joins the country in celebrating the National Teachers’ Month (NTM). This month-long event runs from 5 September to 5 October 2021, with 5 October 2021 as the National Teachers’ Day. The National Teachers’ Day (NTD) has been celebrated every 5th of October since 1994 following the mandate of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The event honors the profession’s nobility while also promoting international teaching standards.
NTD’s theme for the 2021 celebration is “Gurong Pilipino: Katuwang sa Hamon, Kasama sa Pagbangon.” According to UNESCO, this year’s theme recognizes the crucial role and efforts of teachers in providing quality education during the pandemic. The celebration focuses on assisting teachers in their recovery from the pandemic’s impacts and showcases effective, promising policy solutions and outline activities to aid their recovery.
The transition to distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic from the traditional face-to-face setup has been a difficult undertaking not only for students but for many Filipino teachers. Despite the challenges of this new endeavor, Filipino educators make every effort to guarantee that learning continues, and that learning materials are presented in creative ways, through synchronous or asynchronous online sessions or by modular method. Some teachers may have experienced fatigue and frustrations during this time but we celebrate their dedication and hardwork to give the best for their students.
Mabuhay ang gurong Pilipino!
