Bachelor of Education Studies
The Bachelor of Education Studies (BES) program, with specializations in Alternative Education Systems (AES) and in Instructional Design and Technology (IDT), is designed to develop education professionals for various types of education work in diverse contexts.
The specialization in AES focuses on non-traditional or non-mainstream approaches to teaching and learning, including home schooling, work-based learning, distance education, open learning, community education, and non-formal education. BES AES majors will be equipped to pursue careers in:
- Curriculum and materials development for alternative education programs
- Teaching in the non-formal education or alternative learning sector
- Training and human resource development
- Education-related development work, such as the design and delivery of health education programs and environmental advocacy programs
IDT is a multidisciplinary field of study that focuses on the systematic use of technology to address educational challenges both in school-based and alternative learning environments. IDT majors will be equipped to pursue careers in:
- Design of technology-supported education programs and curricula, including online curricula
- Instructional systems and materials development
- Learning network management and support
- Teaching courses in educational media and technology
Associate in Arts
The Associate in Arts (AA) program is a 60-unit liberal arts program at the undergraduate level. It qualifies individuals to pursue a Bachelor’s degree, whether in the sciences or the arts.
