The revised program aims to develop practitioners and leaders who will strengthen Social Studies education. The program is laddered on to the Diploma program.
Objectives
The program aims to develop social studies education practitioners who can:
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of the theoretical and disciplinal foundations of social studies education;
- Design and develop theoretically grounded and research-based curricula and instructional materials for social studies programs;
- Organize and implement relevant, interdisciplinary, and coherent social studies programs; and
- Assess and evaluate processes and outcomes of social studies education using a variety of tools and approaches.
- Participate in broader policy, regulatory, and social discourses related to social studies education;
- Contribute to the body of research in social studies education; and
- Demonstrate and facilitate professional learning and leadership in social studies education.
Admission Requirements
All students are admitted to the Diploma program. Students interested in proceeding to the MA program should complete all courses for the Diploma program with a GWA of 2.0 or better.
Curriculum
The Master’s program has two tracks: a thesis and a non-thesis option. The thesis option has a total of 36 units, with 30 units of course work and 6 units thesis. The non-thesis option has a total of 37 units, with 33 units of course work and 4 units special problem after passing a comprehensive examination.
